Al-Nawfara Café

Al-Nawfara Café is a traditional Damascene coffeehouse in the Al-Nawfara quarter behind the Umayyad Mosque in Old Damascus, and is considered one of the city's oldest cafés. It has an indoor hall and an outdoor courtyard paved with black basalt, and it has kept the tradition of the hakawati, a storyteller who recites folk epics to its patrons. It takes its name from a fountain that once flowed in a nearby basin.
